Yarabe-dake


Mt. Yarabedake is not so high among the mountains of Ishigaki Island with an elevation of 216.5m, and the trailhead can be reached by car, making it a friendly trekking course for first-timers. The trailhead is 150m away, so if you access by car, you will have to trek the remaining 70m. It is more like hiking than trekking.

Students from the local Sakieda Elementary and Junior High Schools often climb the mountain, so first-time trekkers can easily try it. 10-minute walk, but be careful as there are places where you have to follow ropes.

As the path opens up through the brush and trees, the symbol of Mt. Yarabe, the troll's tongue, appears. There is a large rock protruding like the tongue of a troll. You can dive under it or climb on top for a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

Mt. Omotodake

Omotodake is the highest mountain in Okinawa Prefecture. It is the symbolic mountain of Ishigaki Island and is the object of worship. However, even though it is the highest peak, it is not so high compared to mainland Japan at 525.5m above sea level. Therefore, it is one of the target mountains for trekking.

Mt. Buzama is about 322 m above sea level, and it takes about 50 minutes to reach the summit. The name "Buzama-dake" may give the impression that it is a very ugly looking mountain, but rest assured that this is not the case. Buzama means "tail" in the Okinawan dialect, and the name comes from the fact that Mt.

The trail entrance to Mt. Buzama is located at the end of the road leading toward the mountain next to the Sakieda bus stop on Prefectural Route 79. The view from the top of the mountain overlooks the sparkling blue Kabira Bay and the pure white sandy beach. It is breathtakingly beautiful.

 

Mt. Cara

Mt. Kala is one of the lowest mountains in Ishigaki Island at about 136 meters above sea level. There are almost no trees growing naturally, and the mountain is characterized by green areas with thick grass. Because there are no trees, it receives the sea wind directly and the wind is very strong.

It is also famous as a point to experience paragliding because the wind hitting the mountain tends to cause updrafts. Since the New Ishigaki Airport is nearby, you can see airplanes flying over from here, and it is a popular photo spot.
