A summer staple! Enjoy Ishigaki Island by playing with waterfalls
Among the Yaeyama Islands, the waterfalls of Iriomote Island are famous, but do you know that you can play with waterfalls on Ishigaki Island as well as on Iriomote Island?
Trekking along a monster trail with tropical plants and climbing a stream called shower climbing or canyoning to reach a waterfall is a wild experience that is different from sightseeing.
The waterfalls on Ishigaki Island are located in easily accessible areas, so the major attraction is that you can go there and back in just a couple of hours!
It is also good for those who are not good at hard trekking or who are not confident in their physical strength.
Arakawa Falls to stop by during sightseeing or driving.
Arakawa Falls is located about 15 minutes by car from Kabira Bay, which earned three stars in the Michelin tourist guide, and about 30 minutes by car from the city center of Ishigaki Island.
When accessed from Kabira Bay, this small waterfall is located along Route 79, south of Yonehara Beach, which is famous for swimming and snorkeling.
It is a waterfall where local children of Ishigaki Island come to play with water in summer. The waterfall has a drop of about 3 to 4 meters and a basin of about 7 to 8 meters.
Even though it is located just below the road, it was sometimes difficult to find the waterfall unless you were aware that it was there,This waterfall is not often visited by tourists.
Although the drop is only 3 to 4 meters, Arakawa Falls is a great place to feel cool during the hot summer season, as you can even slide down the waterfall when the water volume is high.
Although it is not a sightseeing spot that you should go out of your way to visit only for this waterfall, it is an easy and recommended spot for those who want to cool off during a drive, take a short swim, or take a break to soak up the negative ions.
The water is fresh and cool, so there is no need to take a shower after playing and you can go straight to sightseeing.
As a standard course, it is often used as a substitute for salt removal after playing in the sea at the Blue Cave or Yonehara Beach.

Upstream from Arakawa Falls, another Arakawa Falls appears!
Arakawa Falls can be easily enjoyed at a point just off the main road.
In fact, another Arakawa Falls exists upstream of this Arakawa Falls.
From downstream to upstream, the route involves trekking through a series of rocky clear water areas.
While waterfalls that can be visited casually are nice, we recommend this course for those who would like to experience a course that takes you through the jungle to the waterfalls while shower climbing!
The Arakawa Falls, located upstream, is a hidden gem known as the natural habitat of the Kanhizakura cherry tree, which is a natural treasure.
Although it is possible for experienced hikers to go on their own, it may be easier to join a local optional tour, considering the preparation of equipment and the fact that you will be passing through slippery, rocky terrain and a rocky, treacherous trail along the way.
For tours, helmets and marine boots are available for rent.
Trekking tours to Arakawa Falls are open to participants as young as 6 years old. Families are welcome to participate, and it is also recommended for those who are not confident in their physical strength or for female travelers who are not comfortable with too strenuous an activity.
The course takes about 2 hours from preparation to the waterfall, playing with the waterfall, and back, which is not too long.
Other,There are also tour plans such as a canoe trip to a spot called the Blue Cave, followed by a stop at this Arakawa waterfall.
Consider it when you want to enjoy both canoe touring on the ocean and playing with waterfalls.
