津波大石とは

津波石とは1771（明和８）年、八重山諸島は石垣島南東沖40キロを震源とするマグニチュード7.4の大地震によって起こった津波が内陸部に大きな岩を運んだものが現存するものの事を言い、各地に散在しています。

大浜の崎原公園内にある津波大石は最大のものといわれ、推定の重さは75トン。（但し最近の調査では、明和の大津波以前の大津波時に打ち上げられたものといわれています）

津波大石での遊び方

大浜海岸付近にある津波大石はどうやって運ばれてきたかびっくりするほどの所にあり、過去の台風の強烈さを感じることができます。

また、ジャングルナイトツアーなどが開催されており、この辺りでは『オオコウモリ』、『ヤシガニ』などを見ることができます。夜に見る津波大石は迫力満点なので、ぜひ見てみてください。
