What Is Kannonzaki?
Located on the western side of Ishigaki Island,Fusaki BeachIt is a cape with a small lighthouse standing on it, located very close by.
It’s an observation deck built into a natural rock formation, and the vast ocean stretching out before you is truly breathtaking!
Since it's located at the western tip of the island, you can enjoy beautiful sunsets.
How to Get to Kannonzaki
Kanon-zaki is located about a 15-minute drive from the city center and about a 20-minute drive from the remote islands terminal.
Since Kannonzaki is located in the southwestern part of the island, you can reach it simply by heading west.
If you head south and continue west on Prefectural Route 79 with the ocean on your left, you’ll come to Kannon-zaki.
Things to Do in Kannonzaki
At Kannonzaki, the sunset is by far the most popular attraction.
The sight of the sun sinking below the horizon is truly breathtaking. If you're lucky, you might even see the green flash!

Details of Kannonzaki
Since Kannon-zaki is located at the southwestern tip of Ishigaki Island, you can enjoy beautiful sunsets and see the beaches of Ishigaki Island as well as Taketomi Island.
At the tip of the cape stands the Kannonzaki Lighthouse, and there is a gazebo here with a roof supported by four pillars, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
The lighthouse is located on a slight hill, so you can see not only the ocean but also the entire island.
The sunset viewed from here is especially spectacular around 5:00 p.m. in February, so if the timing works out, please come by to watch it.
Once you emerge from the cave, you’ll find yourself by the sea, where you can watch the sunset over the rugged rocks.
In addition, Fusaki Beach is just a 2-minute drive southwest of Kannonzaki, where you can enjoy a stroll and various activities.

Chinese tomb
This Chinese grave is a burial site dedicated to the victims of the Robert Bown Incident.
The Robert Bown Incident was a tragedy that occurred in 1852 and claimed the lives of more than 500 people.
As for the graves, their dazzling decorations have made them a tourist attraction.

Tomizaki Kannondo
Tomizaki Kannon-do is a historic temple that has been the object of devotion for many years, enshrining a Kannon statue that watches over maritime safety and good health.
It is known as the most popular spot on Ishigaki Island during New Year’s Eve countdowns and the first shrine visit of the year, and long lines form there.
The row of stone lanterns is a distinctive feature, so use them as a landmark when you visit.

Fusaki Beach
Fusaki Beach is a natural beach managed by the Fusaki Resort Village.
It is a clean beach that is well-maintained and well-managed, with lifeguards on duty and nets to keep jellyfish out.
Although it is easily accessible from downtown areas and remote island terminals and attracts many tourists, it still retains such beautiful natural scenery that sea turtles come here to lay their eggs every year.
