What Is Nakamichi's "No. 3 Akou"?
A giant akou tree standing at a five-way intersection on the road leading from New Ishigaki Airport to downtown Ishigaki.
It has also been designated as a cultural property by Ishigaki City.
The tree is said to be between 220 and 270 years old. In the past, there were five trees—numbered one through five—but today only this “Number Three Akou” remains.
The tree is about as tall as the five-story building standing next to it!
The thickness of the tree trunks and the spread of the branches and leaves are truly impressive.
Locals call it “The Third Akou Tree on Nakadumi Street.”
Apparently, because the large trees provide shade, this spot used to be a popular resting place for locals.
How to Play at Nakamichi's Sanban Akou
The Third Akou Tree of Nakamichi, selected as one of Okinawa’s 100 Famous Trees.
Even though it’s located along the road, when the leaves come in, it spreads out to about 20 meters, offering a truly spectacular view while you’re driving.
There are places nearby, such as MaxValu, that sell daily necessities, so it’s a great spot to visit while you’re out for a drive.
There are also nearby locations used for the Jungle Night Tour and the Stargazing Tour, so we recommend combining your visit with one of these tours.
