What Is the Former Yonaguni National Housing Project?

The former Yonaka House, built in 1913, is the centerpiece of the Traditional Buildings Preservation District on Taketomi Island and is of great value for understanding modern housing forms and lifestyles on the island.

This is a split-level house consisting of the main living area, “Fūya,” and the kitchen, “Tora,” which are connected.

It was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 2007.
