What is a Tang People's Tomb?
The Tang People's Tomb is located on the western edge of Ishigaki Island and is a Chinese-style tomb dedicated to the spirits of the Chinese who died in the Bawun Incident.
In 1852, 400 workers from Xiamen, China were on their way to California when they rose up against ruthless treatment, but the ship ran aground off Ishigaki Island and 380 disembarked.
The workers were shot by British soldiers, died of illness, and committed suicide one after another.
It was built in 1971 to honor 128 such Chinese people.
Directions to the Tang People's Tomb
It is located 20 minutes by car from Ishigaki Port and about 45 minutes by car from New Ishigakijima Airport.
After leaving Shin-Ishigaki Airport, go north on the Ishigaki Port Ibaruma Line toward Kannonzaki, and you will see it on your left.
Access by ◆Bus
If taking a bus from the city center, use the Kabira Resort Line on Route 9, which takes about 15 minutes.
If you take a bus from Shin-Ishigakijima Airport, take the Airport Line (Route 4 or 10) to the bus terminal.
At the terminal, you can transfer to the Kabira Resort Line (Route 9) to access the Tangin Tomb. (The trip takes about 60 minutes.)

The Tang People's Tomb is located on the west end of Ishigaki Island and enshrines the spirits of the Chinese who died in the Bawun Incident.
The exterior of the building feels Chinese in its meticulous and fancy construction.
It is a place where you can feel the sad history and the preciousness of peace, where an inscription of peace prayer is also erected.
The site where the Tang People's Tomb is located is on a small hill, providing a spectacular view of the surrounding area.

Funakura Park
There is an elementary school nearby, which is frequented by children and has a very friendly atmosphere.
This park faces the sea of Ishigaki Island and offers a view of Taketomi Island over the crystal clear emerald green sea.
The promenade extends all the way to Kannonzaki, so you can go for a walk and watch the sunset.

Fusaki Beach
Husaki Beach is a natural beach facing Kura Bay, located a little north of Tangjin Tomb.
Husaki Beach is managed by Husaki Resort Village, a resort hotel, and is equipped with a permanent lifeguard and nets to prevent jellyfish.
Therefore, even those who are not good at swimming and children can enjoy swimming in the sea with peace of mind.
