立神岩とは

与那国島の北部にあり、『神の岩』として信仰対象ともなっている、天を突くオブジェのように巨大な岩が海の中に立っている不思議な形をしたスポットです。
その昔、海鳥の卵を取ろうと、この岩に登って下りられなくなった若者がおり、神に祈りを捧げて眠りについたところ、眼を覚ましたら無事に戻れていたという伝説があると言われています。
この立神岩を見ることができる展望台は二つあり、一つはサンニヌ台の駐車場から約600mほど西に行ったところにある古い展望台、もう一つはさらに500m程西に最近できた新しい展望台です。新しい展望台からは立神岩をすぐ間近に見ることが出来ます。覗き込むようにして見ることになるので、風が強い日はくれぐれも注意してください！また、新しい展望台には駐車スペースは２～３台分しかありませんが、観光客も少ないので比較的空いています。
