Takana Cape, located at the southernmost point of Japan, is situated at 123°47'12" east longitude and 24°02'24" north latitude. At this location, there are three monuments: the Monument Marking Japan’s Southernmost Point, the Hateruma Monument, and the Monument for Peace.

I’ve heard that the monument marking Japan’s southernmost point was erected in 1972 by a student who had traveled across Japan from Hokkaido.

I’ve heard that the Peace Memorial Monument was erected by Taketomi Town to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war.
