Ishigaki Island-Shiraho Coral Village

石垣島のしらほサンゴ村

About Shiraho Coral Village

Ishigaki IslandShiraho CoastAn exhibition facility nearby.

We are working to protect the coral reefs at Shiraho Beach, a source of pride for Japan on the world stage.

The Sunday Market held at Shiraho Coral Village sells local specialties from Shiraho and Ishigaki Island every Sunday, and I’ve heard that a portion of the proceeds goes toward coral conservation.

How to Get to Shiraho Coral Village

Shiraho Coral Village is located about a 10-minute drive from New Ishigaki Airport and about a 25-minute drive from the Remote Islands Terminal.

How to Get to Shiraho Coral Village
When accessing from Shin-Ishigaki Airport
① After leaving New Ishigaki Airport, turn left and head south on Route 390.
② Turn left at the intersection where the Shiraho Post Office is on your right.
③ As you pass through the Shiraho village with its red-tiled roofs and coral stone walls, Shiraho Beach stretches out before you.

◆If you're coming from the Remote Islands Terminal
① Exit the Remote Islands Terminal, turn right, and turn right at the 730 Monument intersection.
② Head southeast along National Route 390, and turn left at the intersection where the Shiraho Post Office is located just ahead on the left.
③ As you pass through the Shiraho village with its red-tiled roofs and coral stone walls, Shiraho Beach stretches out before you.

If you're coming by bus
I'll board a sightseeing bus heading from Ishigaki Airport to the city center.
Get off at the first bus stop, ”Shiraho,” and walk toward the ocean for about 5 minutes to reach your destination.

Things to Do at Shiraho Coral Village

Ishigaki Island is one of the top coral reef destinations in Japan! The coral reef area connecting Ishigaki Island and Iriomote Island is called the “Ishigaki-Iriomote Reef,” and it is Japan’s largest coral reef area.

You can also see plenty of blue coral—a species that is rare even on a global scale—near Shiraho Beach.

As a result, snorkeling and diving are very popular there.

Located about a 10-minute drive from New Ishigaki Airport—the gateway to Ishigaki Island—Shiraho Beach is famous for its rich variety and abundance of coral and tropical fish.

While Shiraho Beach is known for its large colonies of blue coral and diverse marine life, its unspoiled, long white-sand beach stretching for about 1 km is also exceptionally beautiful.

In addition, Shiraho Coral Village hosts a Sunday market every Sunday, where you can purchase local specialties and souvenirs.
