サタケ八重山ヤシ記念館とは

石垣島の北東エリアの米原ビーチ＆キャンプ場からほど近い場所にあり、石垣島などに生育する『リュウキュウヤエヤマヤシ』を発見した、ヤシ研究の世界的権威、佐竹利彦氏を記念して立てられた博物館。鬱蒼とヤシが茂る中に忽然と建物が現れます（笑）。佐竹博士の偉業や世界のヤシ、ヤシを活用した世界各地の日用品などが展示されており、八重山ヤシのことをより深く知ることができます。こちらで八重山ヤシの知識を得てから、すぐ近くの米原のヤエヤマヤシ群落へ向かうと一層楽しむことができますね♪

サタケ八重山ヤシ記念館での遊び方

サタケ八重山ヤシ記念館へ行くなら必ず米原のヤエヤマヤシ群落も合わせていきましょう！ヤエヤマヤシ群落の遊歩道は10～20分もあれば十分満喫できるので、すぐ近くにある青の洞窟も行くのをおすすめします。手付かずの洞窟内も探検できるのでおすすめです。また、米原のヤエヤマヤシ群落入口にあるサトウキビジュースもおすすめ。
