About the Kamiyama Family Residence

The Yamaga Residence, located within the Higashi-suji settlement, was designated as a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2005.

Although it was the westernmost historic building in Japan in 2005, this residence, built in 1909, still boasts the beautiful red-tiled roof characteristic of Okinawa.

This traditional building is made from timber such as “Imanuki” and “Fukugi” brought from Iriomote Island, and because its craftsmanship and construction techniques remain in excellent condition even today, it is a traditional structure of great historical value.
