About the Ayami Habiru Building

Located at the foot of Mount Urabe, slightly east of central Yonaguni Island, this museum is dedicated to the world’s largest moth, the “Ayamihabiru” (Yonaguni-san). Visitors can learn about the Yonaguni-san’s unique ecology through video presentations, and the museum also displays numerous specimens of other butterflies and insects, making it a spot that children will love. You can even see a live Yonaguni-san. While the idea of the world’s largest moth might make you a little wary at first, it’s actually surprisingly beautiful, and simply watching it is a delight♪
