Q. Will I be able to see the sunset on cloudy or rainy days? Will the tour be cancelled?

Even if it rains or is overcast, the tour will be held as long as there are no problems with the operation of the kayaks themselves. In many cases, you will be able to see fantastic views unique to cloudy days, such as light shining through gaps in the clouds (angel's ladders) and the phenomenon known as "bombing and burning," in which the entire cloud cover turns bright red. However, in the event of heavy rain or strong winds, the tour will be cancelled or rescheduled to another time for safety reasons.

Q. How many minutes before sunset does the tour start?

Ishigaki Island is located in the westernmost part of Japan, so the sunset time is much later than in Tokyo. The sunset time in summer (July to August) is around 19:30, and in winter (December to January) around 18:00. Therefore, the tour meeting time is set about 1 to 1.5 hours before the sunset. Pick-up and meeting times vary depending on the season, so please confirm the exact time provided by the store after making your reservation.

Q. Do you have any tips for taking beautiful pictures of the sunset from a kayak with a smartphone?

If you are in a waterproof case, the light from the setting sun may reflect off the case and make your photos blurry. The trick is to wipe the plastic of the case clean when taking pictures by yourself, but because of the risk of submersion in water, the most reliable way is to have your guide take the pictures. Most of our tours offer free gift plans with high quality photo data taken by the guide, so please leave the photography to the professionals and enjoy the spectacular scenery to the fullest!
