Operated by the NPO Takidoun, we provide support for tourism on Taketomi Island.
In addition to souvenir shops and food stalls, the Taketomi Port Passenger Terminal also houses a tourist information center operated by the NPO Takidoun.

Fragrant Well

To get to Hanashiro Well from the NPO Takidoun General Information Center, exit the center and turn right.
Follow the road, and once you see the Taketomi Island Bike Rental on your right, turn right at the next T-intersection.
Turn left at the T-intersection at the end of the road, and you'll find Hanashiro Well immediately on your right.
This is a well that was once in use at the Shinzato Village archaeological site, and the site is famous for the fact that a settlement formed around this well.
Be sure to check out the Hanashiro Well, which served as the lifeline that sustained the village back then.
There are several wells on Taketomi Island, but this one is the largest of them all, so it’s quite impressive.
Please be sure to visit the Shinzato Village Ruins as well.

Taketomi Island Visitor Center Yubu-kabukan

To get to the Taketomi Island Visitor Center Yukabu-kan, turn right after exiting the NPO Takidun General Information Center.
Turn right at the next intersection, and you'll see Yuka on your left.
Since it's being built right nearby, you shouldn't have any trouble finding it.
The Taketomi Island Visitor Center, Yukabu-kan, features exhibits on the island’s nature, history, and traditional culture. It is a facility where visitors can learn about Taketomi Island’s culture and history by watching video presentations in its large-screen theater.
Since it also features recommendations for places to visit, we recommend stopping by before you start sightseeing.

Taketomi Post Office

To get to the Taketomi Post Office, turn right after leaving the NPO Takidun General Information Center.
Follow the road straight ahead toward the village.
After entering the village, continue straight ahead. When you see Taketomi Island Parler Ganju-ya and Shima-yado Ganju-ya on your left, pass the second intersection, and you’ll find the Taketomi Post Office on your left.
The Taketomi Post Office is the only post office on Taketomi Island and is characterized by its red-tiled roof, which is edged with white plaster—a hallmark of the Yaeyama region.
In addition, shisa figurines—which are believed to ward off evil spirits—are perched on the roof, preserving a strong sense of traditional atmosphere.
In front of the post office, there is also a traditional round red mailbox, and the stone wall is decorated with commemorative stamps unique to Taketomi Island.
Find a stamp you like and be sure to buy it as a souvenir.
