About the Anatome Observation Deck

The Anatome Observation Deck is located on Anatome Beach at the northeastern tip of Kurojima. You can enjoy a beautiful sunrise here in the early morning. The NTT cable from Ishigaki Island runs all the way here.
It’s also a sacred place along the coast, home to Anatome Utaki. Since hardly any tourists visit here, you can really enjoy a sense of privacy.

How to Get to Anatome Observation Deck

The Anatome Observation Deck is located about a 34-minute walk or an 11-minute drive from Kuroshima Port. After leaving Kuroshima Port, go straight, pass the intersection where Heart Land is located, and turn left at the first intersection. Continue along the road for a while, turn left at the T-intersection at the end of the road, and then turn right at the next dead end. Continue along the road, and Anatome will be directly in front of you.

Since the Anatoma Observation Deck is situated on a slight hill compared to the surrounding area, it offers a panoramic view of the surroundings, with the crystal-clear sea spread out below. The Anatome Observation Deck is located at the northeastern tip of Kurojima. It sits at the top of the right half of the heart-shaped island. The road leading from the village to the observation deck is lined with a row of yarabu trees, creating a tunnel-like effect that gives the area a very unique atmosphere. This is a coastline in the northeastern part of the island, with a stretch of coral reefs nearby. At the very tip stands the Anatome Utaki shrine. Across the sea, you can see Ishigaki Island on the opposite shore.
The ocean off this coast is home to plenty of coral and tropical fish, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling, but the currents can be strong at times, so you need to be very careful.

Iko Pier

Iko Pier was designated a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2005, and from here you can enjoy a view of the crystal-clear sea. Monument to the "100 Selected Roads"

The "100 Best Roads in Japan" monument is a stone monument located within the Higashi-suji settlement; it was erected to commemorate the selection of Prefectural Road 213 (Kuroshima Port Line) as one of Japan’s 100 Best Roads.
Prefectural Road 213, selected as one of Japan’s “Top 100 Scenic Roads,” is lined with stone walls on both sides, allowing visitors to enjoy the traditional scenery of red-tiled roofs—a hallmark of the Yaeyama Islands. Back in 1986, when it was selected, the road was unpaved and covered entirely in white sand, which made its beauty even more striking. Why not visit this beautiful scenic route?

Kuroshima Observatory

The Kuroshima Observation Deck is a spiral-shaped observation deck located next to Kuroshima Elementary School along the road leading from Kuroshima Port to the village.
From the observation deck, you can take in a panoramic view of the island, and on clear days, you can see Iriomote Island, Taketomi Island, and Ishigaki Island across the sea.
