Isanchiya (an ancient tomb) is the burial site of Takamine Shuri Oya-ko, the first official of Kuroshima, and his wife. Kuroshima is now known as “Cow Island,” where the number of cows exceeds the human population, and it was Takamine Shuri Oya-ko and his wife who first brought cows to the island. It is said that after Takamine Shuri Oyakko assumed the position of Kuroshima’s first official in 1628, he introduced cattle to the island to promote agriculture through plowing with oxen.
Since this monument is located along the road from Kuroshima Port to Kuroshima Elementary and Junior High School, it’s a good idea to stop by here at the start of your trip to Kuroshima.
How to Get to Isancha
Isancha is located about an 11-minute walk or a 2-minute drive from Kuroshima Port. As you leave Kuroshima Port and head toward the village along Prefectural Road 213, you’ll find it on your left.
How to Play Isancha
Although Isancha is a cemetery and not a place for recreation, there are several nearby attractions—such as the Waterworks Monument, Kuroshima Elementary and Junior High School, and an observation deck—so it’s a good idea to visit them while you’re there. Also, if you follow Prefectural Road 213, it leads to the village, so it’s a great spot to stop by on your way there.

It is said that Takamine Masamasa, a Shuri Oya-ko official, introduced cattle to Kuroshima for the first time in 1826 after taking office as the first magistrate of the island, thereby promoting agricultural development through plowing with oxen. He established a guard post in the Hori settlement. Isancha was designated as a historic site of Taketomi Town in 1972.
