What Is the Waterworks Monument?

In the past, Kuroshima had no running water, and residents relied on water drawn from wells for their daily needs. However, a monument was erected in Showa 50 to commemorate the extension of the water supply from Iriomote Island to Kuroshima and Shinshōjima (Panari Island).

It is said that the introduction of running water drastically changed people’s lives.

Since you’ll be passing by on your way from Kuroshima Port to Kuroshima Elementary School, it’s a good idea to stop by.
