What Is the West Pier?
It was built in 1938 for people traveling to Iriomote Island to work in rice farming and other occupations.
It was in use until 1971, but there are no ships coming and going there now.
It was also designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2005.
It is currently used as a tourist attraction, and the contrast between the emerald-green sea and the white pier makes it a popular photo spot.
Although it's open only to guests, it's also famous as the best spot to watch the sunset.

Things to Do at Nishi Pier
Nishi Pier is a very popular tourist spot on Taketomi Island.
You can walk there, but it’s so popular that tourists flock there.
I recommend renting a bike and going during off-peak hours—you’ll be able to take some great photos.
