About Miyazato Beach
Miyazato Beach is famous for KuroshimaNakamoto BeachAlthough it’s not as well known as some of the other beaches, it’s one of Kuroshima’s most scenic beaches.
Miyazato Beach retains its unspoiled natural beauty, and while it doesn’t have the same facilities as Nakamoto Beach, you can still enjoy snorkeling there.
Also, since this beach isn't very well known, hardly any tourists come here, so you can enjoy it as if it were your own private beach.
This beach is also famous as the venue for the Harvest Festival held in July.
How to Get to Miyazato Beach
Miyazato Beach is located about a 25-minute walk or a 5-minute drive from Kuroshima Port.
Leave Kuroshima Port and head straight south.
Turn left at the end of the street, then turn right at the next intersection, and you'll find it on your right.

Things to Do at Miyazato Beach
There aren't any particular facilities at Miyazato Beach; there's just a single bench scattered here and there.
On the other hand, since hardly anyone comes here, you can enjoy snorkeling to your heart's content.
Of course, there are no lifeguards on duty, so be sure to wear a life jacket or similar protective gear while you enjoy yourself.

Details on Miyazato Beach
Miyazato Beach is located on the southwestern part of Kurojima, about a 30-minute high-speed ferry ride from the Ishigaki Island Remote Islands Terminal.
Kuroshima is called Heart Island because the island is shaped like a heart.
Miyazato Beach is the hidden gem of a beach located on this island with such a charming shape.
Compared to other islands, it is less developed and retains a great deal of unspoiled nature, making it a particularly hidden gem.
It is located farther away than Kuroshima Port—the island’s only gateway—and the overgrown vegetation along the road leading to Miyazato Beach adds to its sense of seclusion.
This beach still boasts the beautiful, unspoiled ocean that Kuroshima has always been known for, and it’s a favorite spot among islanders, where the Harvest Festival—held every year in the sixth month of the lunar calendar to pray for a bountiful harvest and a prosperous year—takes place.
As mentioned above, since this is a beach that has retained its natural state, there are almost no facilities in the surrounding area.
There are benches, so just sitting down and relaxing while gazing out at the beautiful ocean is soothing in itself.
The ocean off Miyazato Beach is home to coral and tropical fish, so you can go snorkeling there.
However, we do not rent out snorkel sets, so you will need to bring your own.
Also, since this is a rocky beach, it can be dangerous at low tide, so we recommend visiting at high tide.
Since Miyazato Beach is located on the southwestern side of the island, you can enjoy the view of the sun setting over the horizon in the evening.
Also, wild peacocks make an appearance around sunset. Since they’re creatures you rarely see on other islands, be sure to keep an eye out for them when you visit Kuroshima.
Near Miyazato Beach is Puzumari, a lookout tower used during the Ryukyu Kingdom era.
It was once used to monitor merchant ships and enemy vessels, but since it is no longer in use, it has been preserved as a historic site.
About 10 years ago, it was possible to climb it, but it is no longer accessible due to the risk of collapse caused by weathering.
Be sure to stop by the visitor center in the Miyazato settlement, where you can view historical materials related to the island, including the Puzumari.
Since the Kuroshima Harvest Festival is also held at Miyazato Beach, if the timing works out, feel free to stop by.
Recommended Sightseeing Spots Near Miyazato Beach
Ox-Head Rock
Gozu-iwa is a rock shaped like a cow's head that towers right in front of you when you look out at the sea from Miyazato Beach.
If you're heading to Puzmari, there's a small sign along the road toward the coast, so just follow the sign and you'll find it easily.
This rock is perfect for Kurojima, an island where there are more cows than people.
Despite its perfection, which makes it seem as if it were man-made, one can still sense the mystery of nature.
Directions: About a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk from the port
Puzumari (Hibanomori, Sakishima Islands)
As mentioned above, Puzumari is one of the watchtowers built to monitor foreign ships and other activities; it is now a historic site that is no longer in use.
In the past, since there were no telephones, whenever a foreign ship was spotted, smoke signals were used to notify the Ryukyu Prefectural Government office on Ishigaki Island.
There are several Hibamori sites in the Yaeyama Islands and the Miyako Islands, among other places, and these are collectively referred to as the Sakishima Islands Hibamori.

Site of a Former Checkpoint
The site of the village police station is the former location of the office that served as the local branch of the Kuramoto—the head of the Yaeyama Islands—during the period when the Yaeyama Islands were under the rule of the Satsuma Domain.
At that time, this checkpoint was primarily responsible for collecting the poll tax and managing and regulating the loading and unloading of ships entering and leaving the island.
Since it's located just before you reach Miyazato Beach, it's easy to stop by.
There are also informational signs about the site of the former checkpoint, so you can learn more about it.
Although the site of the former checkpoint is a historic site, it is a public facility, so admission is free.
The facility also features exhibits explaining Kuroshima’s nature and culture, so you can learn even more about the island.
