One of the main purposes of travel is to enjoy good food. Guidebooks and websites are filled with all kinds of information.

Popular restaurants are good, but which ones are the ones that the locals in Ishigaki Island say are really delicious?

I want to taste the food at that restaurant! In response to your request, we will provide you with really delicious and recommended hole-in-the-wall gourmet information on Ishigaki Island recommended by locals.

Not to be outdone by famous restaurants! Hirara Shoten, a hole-in-the-wall store that won the Yaeyama Soba Grand Prix

The first thing to eat in Ishigaki Island is Yaeyama soba.

There are many restaurants on Ishigaki Island where you can eat Yaeyama soba, and Akashi Shokudo is the most famous among them.

The "Soki Soba" with pork bone broth is rich, not greasy and refreshing, and the "Katsudon" and "Vegetable Soba" are also excellent.

The only drawback of Akashi Shokudo, however, is that it is far from the center of town, and there are just too many customers.

It is not uncommon to wait an hour or more.

So there,For those who have little time but want to eat delicious Yaeyama soba near the city, we recommend "Taira Shokudo".

Taira Shoten is located in front of the "Tonoshiro Fishing Port" bus stop, a 10-minute walk from the 730 intersection.

The exterior of the restaurant is stylish, with a wooden deck and surfboards at the entrance. The restaurant has a café-like atmosphere.
With a reputation for taste, Hirara Shoten's Yaeyama Soba won the Grand Prix at the 2017 Yaeyama Soba Championships, Yaeyama Soba category. The Soki Soba soup has a strong pork bone taste and is quite suitable for those who like thick & strong flavors.
Also winning the Y-1 Grand Prix in 2014 was the "Spicy Miso Vegetable Soba" which contains a lot of thin bean sprouts unique to Yaeyama. This is also a very tasty soba.
The "juicy" rice balls that come with the set order are also exceptional. If you can't finish it, you can put it in a plastic bag and take it home. The shop closes as soon as they are sold out, so it is recommended to visit early.

Tora I Seitan, a hole-in-the-wall yakiniku restaurant where you can enjoy the best filet of Ishigaki beef.

Ishigaki Island is famous for Ishigaki beef and Ishigaki beef barbeque! There are many other yakiniku restaurants in Ishigaki Island, and I recommend Toraichi butcher store. The costumers are the best!

Toraichi butcher store is a 6-minute drive from 730 intersection and about 20 minutes from Shin-Ishigaki Airport. It is located near a school called Yaeyama Shoko High School in Maesato.
When you say the word "butcher store," you may think of a butcher shop in town, but this Toraichi butcher store looks like a cake shop or a coffee shop.
When you enter the store, you are first confronted with a showcase selling meat. That case is like the showcase of a cake shop. Behind that is a very stylish interior that looks like a coffee shop and is where the barbeque is served.

The manager's father is a cattle fattening farmer. We buy a whole head of Ishigaki beef, so we have many kinds of meat. Also, the manager studied at "National Meat School", so you can enjoy the freshness, quality, variety, and taste that only a meat professional can provide. It is a good place to stop by and buy meat, or taste Ishigaki beef for lunch or dinner.

Tora Ichi butcher store's lunch menu includes "Ishigaki beef grilled beef bowl" with fluffy meat, "Yakiniku no donburi" with homemade thick sauce, "Tora Ichi's hamburger steak" with excellent sauce, and more. The yakiniku menu is abundant, and you can taste many kinds of meat such as tongue, loin, ribs and dice, ribs and halami, and hormone, but the most recommended one is "Hire".
The "fillet" is not sold in stores and can only be tasted on the barbeque menu in the restaurant. Anyway, the tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth "fillet" of Ishigaki beef is the best. Please try it.

This is tofu! Yushi Tofu", which can be purchased at supermarkets and is just delicious!

The island tofu is a must-try in Ishigaki Island.
Have you ever heard of "Yushi-dofu"? Yushi-dofu" is a little different from the tofu you may think of, as it is not square.
Tofu is made by mixing bittern with soy milk, placing the mixture in a square mold, and draining it to make that square tofu, but "yushi-dofu" is not drained and is sold in plastic bags at stores and is tap-tap-tap.
The taste is great, and even without salt or anything else, you can feel the "this is tofu! The taste of tofu is so good that you don't need to add salt or anything else to get it into your body.

Higa Tofu Store is the best place to eat Yushi Tofu in Ishigaki Island. It is famous.Higa Tofu Store has a "Yushi Tofu Set for the Elderly," which includes porridge, egg omelet, and okara (bean curd) for 350 yen.Recommendation.
However, for those who want to try this delicious yushi-dofu but do not have time to visit Higa Tofu Shop, there is a great way to enjoy it. You can go to the nearby supermarkets "Max Value" or "Kanehide" to buy Yushi Tofu and eat it at your hotel, and since it is delivered to the store about four times a day, you can choose freshly made Yushi Tofu that is warm to the touch.
The best way to enjoy it is to eat it freshly prepared, so I went back to my hotel, put it on a suitable plate, and took a bite. Next, add a little soy sauce...delicious!
Anyway, try Yushi Tofu and say loudly, "This is tofu! I want to say out loud, "This is tofu! You will never forget it.
