Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Sagaribana and Yaeyama Firefly Viewing Tour

Q. When are the best times to see sagaribana and Yaeyama fireflies?
The sagaribana season is usually from late May to late July, and the Yaeyama firefly season is usually limited to spring, from March to May.
Q. Will the tours be held on rainy days?
The event is often held if it rains lightly, but may be cancelled in the event of heavy rain, strong winds, or other inclement weather that makes it unsafe. In addition, fireflies may hide behind leaves and become difficult to see when the rain is strong.
Q. Can small children participate?
Many tours allow small children to participate if the plan is to walk along a boardwalk or other route for viewing. For canoeing and other tours, there may be an age limit, so please check the details of each plan.
Q. Is there anything I should bring or wear for the tour?
Since you will be entering the jungle at night, we recommend that you wear long sleeves, long pants, or other clothing that does not expose too much skin, and comfortable shoes for walking. Please follow the guide's instructions as the use of strong light (e.g., smartphone flashes) and insect repellents with strong scents may be restricted during firefly viewing.

I recently participated in the "Sagaribana Viewing Jungle Night Tour" on Ishigaki Island. The experience of seeing the one-night-only sagaribana in the jungle at night was fantastic, the sweet scent of the flowers was in the air, and the star-filled sky was amazing. Thanks to the guide's detailed explanations and safe support, even first-timers can enjoy the tour. The whole family was very satisfied with the tour. Please join this tour when you visit Ishigaki Island!

I did not come here with a specific goal in mind, but the guide of the tour I joined during the daytime told me that it happened to be the season of the sagaribana, so I joined the evening tour of the sagaribana. It was a good decision to join the tour because it is difficult to find places where the flowers are in bloom. The time was a little earlier than the peak, so it was not in full bloom, but it was beautiful enough, fragrant, and fun. We had good memories!
